Materials: Acrylic paint, wood, glass mirror, 28” x 28” canvas

This was a 2 part project. This part is called Eyes Open and the other is called Eyes Closed. They were both made of 4 canvases fastened together from behind. I painted them while reading a book from my trauma therapist about awakening and awareness. The idea behind this one is that you can see your colorful and creative self when your eyes have been opened to authenticity. The eyes closed one was closed off in the center and had twice as many outside angles. It was mostly smoky black with red swirling to the center. It symbolizes that when your eyes are closed to authenticity you can not see your true self and everything looks dark and dreadful. I had them facing each other on opposite ends of my living room as a reminder of the difference while going through trauma therapy.
