The inspiration for this piece came from music festivals. I believe music festivals have great value in healing our society by connecting and collaborating through art, song, and dance. The Way Finder is meant to be a place to inspire wonder, a place to gather, and a place to direct your journey.
I designed the Way Finder in VectorWorks and fabricated the prototype using a microcontroller to control the LED pixels. It can be networked via ArtNet or E1.31 protocol. It is also interactive and it can be set up as a synchronized array with interactivity from all 4 sides allowing 4 people to creatively collaborate to light up the array.
We had our first two installations! We were at the iGNIGHT festival in Fort MacMurray, AB, and at the Night Light Festival in Calgary, AB. Find us next at Chinook Blast in Calgary AB!
